2026 Hyundai Elantra Review

Overview

Although it’s certainly evolved through seven generations, the Hyundai Elantra is a compact sedan known for its good fuel economy, comfortable seating, and long warranties. The 2026 Hyundai Elantra continues that trend with a hybrid option, room for five, and easy-to-use tech. See below for the safety features, trim levels, and how it stacks up against rivals like the Civic and Corolla.

2026 Hyundai Elantra Powertrain 8.5/10

Hyundai carries over a wide range of previous powertrains for 2026, including:

  • a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT) for 147 horsepower
  • a 1.6-liter inline four and seven-speed transmission making 201 horsepower
  • an inline four-cylinder hybrid engine and six-speed transmission to make 139 horsepower

This diverse group of powertrain options helped earn the Elantra a spot on our list of the Best Compact Sedans of 2025. The most fuel efficient option is definitely the hybrid, getting an EPA-estimated 54 miles per gallon (MPG) combined. For the gasoline engines, the best you’ll get is actually on the base SE trim. It gets 31 MPG in the city and 40 MPG on the highway. The other trims get 40 MPG on the highway, too, but only get 30 MPG in the city.

The steering on the Elantra is light and friendly. As a whole, the 2026 Elantra lineup gives shoppers a calm base engine, a more powerful option, and a thrifty hybrid with front-wheel drive across the board.

2026 Hyundai Elantra Interior 8.5/10

The cabin keeps the same general layout that Hyundai introduced back in 2021 but it ages well. Simple controls, good seating position, and a second row that has 38 inches of legroom are all features that don’t need updating. Headroom in the back dips a bit due to the sloped roof, but most riders will still be comfortable.

The cabin has a good vibe, and noise levels are low for the class. Material quality depends on the trim, ranging from hard plastics to softer panels and nicer stitching. Small-item storage is well spread between a decent center bin, door pockets, and cupholders.

With a trunk that measures 14.2 cu-ft, the Elantra can handle groceries, luggage, or gear for a weekend trip. Folding the rear seats expands that space, but that option isn’t available on every trim level. The rear sits don’t fold for the SE, Blue, SEL Sport, or SEL Sport Hybrid.

2026 Hyundai Elantra Technology 8.75/10

The driver assist features that are included help the 2026 Hyundai Elantra stand taller than some rivals, but the actual cabin amenities are a little bit lacking. Most models have an eight-inch touchscreen. A 10.25-inch screen is standard at some higher trim levels. Beyond that, buyers get remote keyless entry, wireless device charging, Bluetooth, wireless or regular Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and HD radio.

Here’s the impressive part. Blind-spot collision-avoidance, a rear view monitor with parking guidance forward collision avoidance, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, high beam assist, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, a driver attention warning, and a safe exit warning are standard across the entire 2026 Hyundai Elantra lineup. About the only thing that’s missing is 360-degree overview camera.

2026 Hyundai Elantra Value 9/10

So which Elantra is right for you? Hyundai keeps pricing competitive, selling the SE for $22,600. That gets you strictly the basics, but it’s definitely a budget-friendly option. The SEL Sport does add wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but the SEL Sport Premium is where you really get more features for the money.

Heated side mirrors and heated front seats, cyclist and junction turning detection, and the 60/40 split-folding rear seatback all come into play on the SEL Sport Premium. The Limited trim does had an eight-speaker Bose premium audio system with a subwoofer, and highway driving assist. That also adds on another nearly $5,000, though.

For the hybrid shoppers, at least go up to the SEL Sport hybrid. It has a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Wireless device charging for Qi-supported devices, a vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, and all the driver assists that are standard throughout the lineup.

The Limited hybrid gets the highway driving assist, cyclist and turning detection, a sunroof, the Bose stereo system, the folding seats, an eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and driver seat and mirror memory settings. Since the price gap between the Limited and SEL Sport hybrid models isn’t that great, all those features may be worth the few extra thousand dollars.

When it comes to warranties, they’re all great. A limited new vehicle warranty is good for five years or 60,000 miles, the anti-perforation warranty is good for seven years and unlimited miles, and the powertrain limited warranty is good for 10 years or 100,000 miles. The hybrid models also get a 10-year/100,000-mile electric battery warranty.

Trims & Pricing

2026 Hyundai Elantra SE – $22,625
2026 Hyundai Elantra SEL Sport – $23,750
2026 Hyundai Elantra SEL Sport Premium – $25,075
2026 Hyundai Elantra Blue Hybrid – $25,450
2026 Hyundai Elantra Limited – $27,175
2026 Hyundai Elantra SEL Sport Hybrid – $27,425
2026 Hyundai Elantra N Line – $29,400
2026 Hyundai Elantra Limited Hybrid – $29,800

2026 Hyundai Elantra Final Score 8.75/10

The 2026 Hyundai Elantra continues to be a strong compact sedan with great MPG, no matter which engine you end up with. It stands up well against the 2026 Honda Civic by offering more safety tech at lower prices, it’s got better looks than the 2026 Mazda3, and it’s got hybrid options like the 2026 Toyota Corolla (you can click here to see a recent head-to-head comparison between the two). Even though it’s not built for thrills, the 2026 Elantra excels as a reliable, comfortable car that’s easy to live with day after day.
